Crewe Alexandra Remembered
Crewe Alexandra were formed in 1877 and turned professional some 15 years later when they joined the Football League. For much of their history, the Alex were perennial strugglers, often having to seek re-election to the League. Then Dario Gradi became their manager and supporters enjoyed hitherto unimaginable heights as Gradi brought on a succession of young players, many of whom went on to become household names in the game. Well-known Crewe photographer Gordon Davies has already made a significant contribution to the list of books published about the town with three best-selling volumes of his Memory Lane series. Now Gordon turns his attention to the Alex - for many years he was the photographer who recorded their games for the Crewe Chronicle - and the result is a fascinating book which records many players from the club's long history. Containing around 300 photographs, many of them taken by Gordon himself, Crewe Alexandra Remembered will evoke memories for supporters of many eras.

Crewe Alexandra Football Club, 1877-1999 (Archive Photographs: Images of England)
Crewe Alexandra has a club history which can only be matched by a few. The arrival of Dario Gradi as manager in 1983 changed the club as it once was, and on the way making him one of the most succesful managers to date. This pictorial history captures the highs and lows of Crewe's enigmatic journey through the football divisions, right up to 1998 when Dario recieved his MBE for services to football. The photographs capture the raw emotion of the game that any true fan can empathise with. Containing an in depth history of the club, dating back to 1877, I would recommend this book to any Crewe fan, or indeed any keen followers of the game. A superb read.

Illustrated with a wealth of full-colour action photographs, it charts the ups and the downs of a memorable season, the highs and lows, the great performances and the more forgettable, before taking an appraising glance at what is in store for 2004-05. With a foreword by the now-legendary manager Dario Gradi and a complete profile of every player in the team, this is a must-have for all true Alex fans. The book features a match-by-match account of the team's progress through the year, details of transfer negotiations and the all-important statistics to put the whole thing in perspective.
